Art

Students learn about the various periods of art history, the prominent artists of those periods, and the masterpieces they created. They interpret what they have learned using a variety of mediums and processes – clay, tempera, watercolors, plaster cast, chalk, and wire are just some of the mediums they explore.

Each spring, samples of all children’s art is displayed in the annual art show where their interpreted works are arranged in time-line order. Samples may include, Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Monet’s Water Lilies, and Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

Music & Drama

In Music class, students develop an appreciation for music as they learn music history, beautifully synchronized with the art history timeline. Students study the fundamentals of music theory, as they begin reading music on the staff, clap out rhythms, and read measures. Students develop their music theory skills building a solid music foundation.

In Drama, students learn the fundamentals of theatre production and performance in a classroom outfitted with a stage and a variety of props and costumes. They create theatrical skits and musical performances using instruments, stories, sign language, and dance.

General Curriculum

In General Curriculum, the academic disciplines of language arts, math, science, and social studies are emphasized. A strong literature-based curriculum forms the foundation for language arts. Illustrating, writing, reading, mapping, graphics, and number skills are stressed.

World Culture

Students explore seven different countries; France, Italy, India, Germany, China, Spain, and Japan, each in five week mini sessions. During that time, students will learn introductory vocabulary like color and number words. They will study greetings and salutations in the target language, currency, holidays and customs, historical figures, geography, landmarks, traditional dress and traditions.

Gymnastics and Physical Education

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of gymnastics as they stretch, develop and train the muscles of the body. They learn tumbling, balance, and coordination skills using the balance beams, balls, hoops, high bar, and mats.

Physical education classes focus on developing gross motor skills and the fundamentals of team and individual sports. Children work individually and in small groups to understand, develop, and reinforce body movement and skills.
